Hydro seeding for the year 2014 at the Asbestos mine

rsz img 2998

Between 16-18 of December took place at Amiandos mine the hydro seeding for the year 2014. Hydroseeding is a specialized method coined for unsteady, sloping and inaccessible or inaccessible surfaces. It includes a very specialized process, which comprises the launching seeds with water, fertilizer and adhesives downhill with the hydroseeder.

The instrument  which the hydroseeding conducted, it is usually an automotive vehicle carrying a stirrer tank and a powerful pump. The pump sucks mixture of hydroseeding of the cask and then pumps it out with strong pressure. Because hydroseeding not show particularly uniform distribution of the seeds in the soil, recommended dual sown of the surface in two opposite directions, which eliminates the above disadvantage.

For hydroseeding as for evryspora soils must not be compressed, or have a top crust, with the results to be better if the hydroseeding carried on a wet surface. Rainfall after sowing are critical to its success, and the results of hydroseeding also vary depending on the quality of the soil material.

In sown or hydro-seeding, usually used mixtures of legumes and graminicides. The first because they have a deep root system, while improving the soil by nitrogen fixation, through partnerships that can develop and second because fasten well the soil material with the rich root system. Mixingproposedcomprise 60% graminaceousand 40% legumes.

The seed mix for Asbestos Mine includes native Cypriot seed consisting mainly of Alyssum cypricum that has left very good results in earlier sowings and other Cypriot plants that thrive in Troodos and imported seed. The imported seed mixture for hydro-seeding in the Asbestos mine comes from countries with similar climatic and soil conditions and includes the following plants:

Dactylis glomerata 20%, Festuca arundinacea 15%, Lolium rigidum 10%, Sanguisorba minor 10%, Lotus corniculatus 10%, Medicago sativa 15%, Melilotus officinalis 5%, Trifolium repens 5%, Onobrychis sativa 10%, Lolium rigidum.
